This review is for the Hanami Cosmetics lipstick which retails for $31.95 AUD, and cream blush which retails for $29.95 AUD – with a shout out to their super awesome water based nail polish remover.

What Hanami say about this lipstick:

“Say hello to a natural lipstick that actually sticks. Yep, this vegan lip colour is super long lasting, meaning it’ll stay vibrant from morning ‘til night … or night ‘til morning (cause we’re not judging, sister). Jojoba oil and shea butter make for a creamy and flawless application, as well as keeping your lips moisturized all day long!”

The Hanami lipstick is super opaque without having to pile it on, long lasting, and the semi matte formula doesn’t dry out my lips. I’ve always had a thing for pink lips and these shades are unique enough to add variety to my repertoire, unlike many pink shades. Valley of the Dolls is a beautiful natural (my lips but better) shade on me, and Rules of Attraction is a bright, fun pink which is perfect for the evening or a summer day.

The formula can accentuate any dry skin on the lips, so I use a DIY lip scrub (I’ll include the recipe below) prior to application which makes sure that the lipstick applies beautifully and wears well.

What Hanami say about this cream blush:

“I scream, you scream, we all scream for mineral cream!

Made from all natural ingredients, this easy-blend blush is definitely something to get excited about. It’s creamy texture makes for a dewy-fresh finish, and it’s organic formula means it’s kind to your skin, and even kinder to the planet.”

I have always been a fan of cream blush and this formula is excellent. It’s super pigmented and buildable, it isn’t greasy, it’s long wearing, and it’s easy to blend. Darling Clementine is only really suitable for those with fair skin, but All About Eve is a great all rounder. I like to pair Darling Clementine with the Valley of the Dolls lipstick, or any nude lipstick. All About Eve looks great paired with the Rules of Attraction lipstick.

I apply it using a little on my fingertips by patting in on and building up the colour where I want it, but you can use a brush if you prefer. If you want a matte look dust a little translucent setting powder over the top. Cream blush also looks great with no foundation underneath for a healthy glow.

With only four shades to choose from not everyone is catered to, but keep in mind that the formula can be sheer or deep depending on your application – so don’t be afraid to give it a go!

I highly recommend that you check out the Hanami Cosmetics water based nail polish remover and wipes as well! The formula doesn’t smell horrible like traditional polish removers (it has a slight vanilla scent) and it removes polish like a dream. It also leaves nails feeling moisturised instead of dehydrated. Their polishes are lovely too, and super opaque!

Makeup Artist Tip:

As I mentioned above the Hanami lippies look best if you do a little prep first, as the formula can accentuate dry skin on the lips. I recommend using a moisturising lip scrub prior to application – which works great and is easy to make – but you can even use a damp wash cloth or a toothbrush if you’re gentle.

DIY lip scrub

Get a small pot (I like to reuse tester pots for things like this) and fill it with raw castor sugar, or any fine sugar. Sprinkle a few drops of jojoba oil onto the sugar – you don’t need to use much – and then add a drop of essential oil if you like. Cinnamon and peppermint will give a slight plumping effect because they are a bit irritating to the lips, which I like. Pick up a little of the mixture and rub it into your lips gently with your fingertips, and use a face washer or warm water to rinse off. It’s safe to get in your mouth so don’t be afraid to taste it 😉
